FLOWER FLASH #LMDXLSD

The last time we were in New York City, on our cab ride to the hotel, I whispered to myself as I gazed out the window, “I hope I get to see a flower flash someday…”

My husband thought it was hysterical and reminds me of this on every vacation. When we are driving around he’ll say, “I just hope someday we can see a flower flash..”

Of course, I’m referring to Lewis Miller Design in NYC, a renowned floral designer, celebrated for his flower flashes all over the city. I won’t go into too much detail here as I’ve already done an entire post on LMD after I saw him live in Nashville. (HERE)

From the beginning, the Flower Flash concept has been about sharing and bringing joy to others. Most recently, Lewis Miller Design has teamed up with Lauren Santo Domingo and Moda Operandi. A donation from each flower order is made to The Loveland Foundation, which provides opportunity, healing, and mental health services to women and girls of color. This new flower flash concept is a flower delivery straight from Holland!

You can imagine my delight when I received an email from a dear friend who informed me I would be receiving an LMD flower flash delivery during my birthday week! The team at Moda Operandi sent a link with videos of Lewis Miller walking me through floral arranging using the same flowers that are delivered to my doorstep! He describes the entire process beginning with unboxing and cleaning the flowers, and then he demonstrates possible large arrangements and small arrangements, etc. It’s like going to flower school!

I received the Beach Bloom Box. There have been different varieties offered at different times.

The flowers arrive in a box and you are instructed to cut a couple inches off the stems and let them have a big drink of water for a few hours. Honestly, I’m shocked the flowers live through the shipping. They are wrapped in plastic and packed tight in the box, and it is HOT outside. They really come to life when they hit that cold water.

Look at the bouvardia! They are glowing! That might be my new favorite flower.

Although I originally thought I would use some of my large vases, I am more attracted to smaller, compact arrangements, so I chose a few containers and just jumped right in.

Most of the white peonies were still closed pretty tight, so I used them sparingly in the arrangements. I will enjoy watching those open up over the next week or so. I had a few spray roses left at the end, and rather than stuff more of them in the arrangements I had done, I put them in a separate small vase.

The all white theme was like “the floral equivalent of a morning ocean swim” ~ so refreshing!

With all white flowers, I had more flexibility choosing containers. I did a collection of clear crystal vases, and then some other vases with color ~ five arrangements in all.

This was such a special gift from some very dear friends of mine. They knew I would absolutely enjoy every minute of this project. The flower flash provided a full afternoon of floral fun, and was truly, such a treat!
