NEEDLEPOINT UPDATE
I update my instagram pretty regularly with the current happenings in my needlepoint world, but I haven’t posted about my needlepoint projects on the blog in a couple years.
If interested, here are a few past posts. It’s funny to think I started this needlepoint journey only three years ago and was a true beginner. I’ve completed multiple belts, several sets of coasters, ornaments, and more. I also have several canvases that I haven’t even started, and some that are finished, but not finished,
My most recent needlepoint progress is definitely, in part, thanks to covid 19. A silver lining, if you will.
I actually organized my canvases and sold a few on instagram, and that’s when I became very obsessed with ornaments and coasters. Apparently I do better with smaller projects that can be finished in a shorter amount of time.
I started with these darling Jean Smith primrose coasters. . .
Then the tulips. The Jean Smith tulip coaster comes in pink only, so I got a little creative and did different colors on my own. These were a gift for a dear friend.
Loved these vegetable coasters, also from Jean Smith. They are going to the condo in Naples.
Here is the “covid collection” from March/April/May. . .
I also got this canvas back out and got re-excited about it.
But the feeling has passed, and it has been put away once again. Some day. . .
Sent this one to Hillary in Whitefish. She finished this one and is almost finished with another large project!
Here are a few ornaments I’ve been working on. I get very bored with the background. I like to work with pretty colors!
Here’s another large canvas. I bought the most beautiful fiber colors and stitched almost the entire upper right corner, but it’s also back in the bag for now.
Just ordered a couple of these guys. Paris and Nantucket! I think they are fantastic.
Also just got these and can't decide if they should be coasters or ornaments?
I’m thinking ornaments with cute bows at the top.
This was my latest project for my daughter, Hillary. She has a dachshund, and this will be perfect for her!
Just need to finish the background. . .
Haven’t bought this one yet but I really love it. I think it could be cute framed in a guest closet? I have a hard time figuring out what to do with some of the larger canvas designs. I am too obsessed with fabrics for my pillow collections, and the designs I’m attracted to don’t match my fabric selections for my house. But isn’t it sweet?
I’ve already done a Grateful Dead bears belt for one son, and this one is for my other son who already has two belts I’ve done for him - a fly fishing belt and a trout belt. Belts are time consuming, but you can see the progress, and they are satisfying.
Here’s another new canvas with fibers in a bag. I thought I would just do the plate, and have a round needlepoint plate, but where the heck am I going to put that? This one might end up in the sell pile. A round pillow could be cute?
I have enough needlepoint projects to last a lifetime, yet I am still attracted to new canvases! I must try to be more selective and disciplined!
I’ve received lots of messages asking me how I learned to stitch. You guys it’s not hard. My local shop explained it to me and showed me a couple stitches, and that was it. I’m not a perfect stitcher and I make mistakes, but it’s a fun little hobby that is satisfying and therapeutic, and I recommend it!
That being said, I have thought of investing in a headlamp. Some of the canvases are hard to see and sometimes I feel like I’m going cross eyed when I stitch for long periods of time.
I buy all my canvases and fibers from our local shop here in Omaha, Village Needleworks.
