I may have mislead you on the last post. I teased about an upcoming post on Nantucket houses, but to be honest, I don’t have that many photos of entire houses, just parts of them. The tree situation really hinders one from getting a photo of a house in its entirety. Nevertheless, here is an attempt to give you a feel of the architecture in Nantucket. But also, the trees… WOW.

The houses range from quite small to very large, but every single one is covered in unpainted shingles, thanks to the fairly rigid design requirements on the island.. The shingles weather to a soft gray, and with the flowers on trellises, the gardens and hedges, and the magnificent trees, they could not be more lovely.

The image above shows a friend’s house on the island. It was a dark and cold day, but the house still exudes charm!

This house was awesome and just about covered an entire block!

The image above was in Sconset near the beach, and was right next to a public bathroom near the park.. This gives you an idea of the charm everywhere. And the image below shows almost a whole house! And right across that street is the beach.

There are charming arched entries attached to just about every house, usually with a flowering vine attached, either for a front or side entrance.

The trees seemed especially outstanding on a walk through Sconset…

We drove down this street, and I had my camera out, ready to take a photo of the houses in this cul de sac. But when we came around the turn, the owner of one of the homes was standing in the front door, so I chickened out. But wow!
