Meet the Artist | Christina Serra Delmar

I am thrilled to share this special collection of large Harvest Jugs by Christina Serra Delmar. Carefully crafted in the artist’s studio in Herefordshire, England, the craftsmanship is exceptional. I am in love with the inspiration behind the jugs…

The large-scale contemporary jugs were inspired by 18th century globe-shaped pitchers in Devon where they were made to hold cider or ale for the center of the farmhouse tables to celebrate the harvest or a wedding or even the launch of a ship. The slipware jugs were decorated with motifs and subjects pertaining to the natural world and the change of seasons. Royal emblems such as unicorns and flags were also used. Rhyming text might be found referring to farming, drinking, and the perils of the sea.

Here are a couple antique examples found on Chilcotts Auctioneers & Valuers website. Here and Here

And here are a few examples of Christina’s jugs… I love her interpretation!

Aren’t they amazing mixed with brown aptware for this photo shoot?

My friend Kyle helped with the photo shoot and used cuttings from my yard to fill these gorgeous containers. She is brilliant. They are equally wonderful filled autumnal leaves in the fall, with Christmas greens in December, with tulips in the spring and sunflowers in July.

The jugs are stunning on every side. Here are a few jugs I have in stock showing different angles…

Completely hand-thrown and decorated by Christina in her studio, a converted garage, each piece is thrown with a terracotta body and dipped entirely into a white slip, (a liquid clay) which is then scratched away to reveal the terracotta body underneath. The incredible patterns and scenes are the result of this meticulous process.

True works of art, they are heavy and substantial, and although I love to fill them with floral delights, they make a statement while sitting absolutely empty.
