a fence story... accents of france

One of my biggest backyard dilemmas since I've lived in this house has been the fence along the back of my backyard. There used to be trees planted along the fence in our neighbors yard. The trees were removed last year after being destroyed from a disease. As a result, there has been quite a bit of an interruption in our privacy. Their view has most likely changed also, however because of the grading of the properties, we see more of their house than they do ours.

Before, the trees created a nice and natural privacy fence. Mind you, the fence was not and is not pretty, but we planted a charming arrangement of landscaping in front, and it all worked.

Here's what it looked like before disease struck, with trees…

Look how dense those trees are on the other side!

And here's what it looks like sans trees...

After exhausting the ideas associated with relandscaping our yard to include trees, and thanks to some great suggestions from Vickie Lea Designs, suggestions that I would not have the bravery or creativity to imagine, I have full-on moved on to more interesting ideas.

And it's been quite a process and evolution…

Shall we?

This would be an interesting way of using the existing fence, creating a bit more charm. I could even hang something beautiful in that center diamond...

I also thought these ivy circles were a charming addition to a plain fence...

But these ideas don't solve the problem at hand.

I was picturing some sort of lattice fencing I could add to the top of the existing fence, or put in front of the existing fence that's taller and creates a distraction. Luckily, there are lots of images on pinterest to help with inspiration!

Love the top of this design...

Wow...

This is something I could totally visualize and get excited about…

But it was still just the beginning...

Love the diamond pattern here...

Love this trellis-like lattice work over the brick...

Not interested in white, but a nice shape...

Found lots of examples of trelliage and lattice pieces serving as a charming privacy fence...

BUT THEN I FOUND THIS…

See how there is a regular looking 6 foot fence, and then a beautifully shaped decorative lattice piece stands in front?

THIS is what I was visualizing!

And then this stunner! But what did this remind me of?

I was lead to a wonderful website where I found even more and realized I had hit the jackpot.

And then I remembered. Charlotte Moss and Miles Redd each have exquisite lattice structures featured in their patio design...

And this is the company they had to have used...

Accents of France

Accents of France can certainly create custom work, but they also offer a range of treillage pieces for residential or commercial applications. Used against a wall, freestanding, on a terrace, balcony or gate, their collection of decorative treillage adds instant charm and opulence to any space. There are a variety of woods (cedar, iroko, meranti, oak…) or metals (iron or aluminum) to choose from, and my favorite option, different colors!

Check out these amazing images from their website. I'm dying over the urn detail!

Isn't this detail the one Miles Redd used?

Sure looks like it!

There are so many options...

The white is not for me, but I love this design… those urns!

Here's a variation of that same design in brown…

Love the green!

Check this out! A fence on top of a fence… this might be a bit overwhelming for us and certainly for our neighbors - can you imagine?

Wow...

And I am back to the drawing board… Lots of decisions to be made and planning to be done. I shared this exciting idea with my husband and he has informed me of all kinds of codes and rules and expenses in his reasonable and sensible way. Probably won't happen anytime soon, if at all. But it's fun to fantasize...
